Rafferty for AG Challenges Josh Shapiro To Agree To Take Politics Out Of The AG’s Office

Rafferty for AG Launches TakePoliticsOut.com

HARRISBURG – The Rafferty for Attorney General campaign challenged Democratic Attorney General candidate Josh Shapiro to join John Rafferty in agreeing to take politics out of the Office of Attorney General by agreeing to not run for higher office.

“The race for the Office of Attorney General is critically important to the future of the Commonwealth, and I believe it is imperative that we take politics out of the Office,” John Rafferty said.  “I have pledged that I will only run for the Office of Attorney General and not seek higher office.

“Today, I challenged my opponent, Josh Shapiro, to join me in pledging to take politics out of the AG’s office by promising not to seek higher office.  We cannot afford to allow the Office of Attorney General to be used by candidates who simply see it as a stepping-stone for the Governor’s mansion.

“Our Commonwealth deserves a leader in the Office of Attorney General who will be laser-focused on fixing the mess that has been created by the scandals and political agendas of the past four years. Pennsylvania needs an Attorney General who will put politics aside and work towards ensuring the public’s safety and prioritize making Pennsylvania a safer place for our families and is committed to rooting out corruption and fraud.”

In order to build public support to take politics out of the Office of Attorney General, the Rafferty for Attorney General campaign launched a public petition at www.TakePoliticsOut.com.

John Rafferty is the Republican nominee for Attorney General.  As a state senator, John represents the 44th District, which includes parts of Montgomery, Chester and Berks counties.  John previously served as a Deputy Attorney General where he worked in the Criminal Law Division in the Medicaid Fraud Unit.  John’s campaign has been endorsed by a number of influential organizations, including the Republican Party of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania State Troopers Association, the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police, the Pennsylvania Professional Firefighters Association, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation and the Laborers’ District Council of Western Pennsylvania.

While the debate in the Democratic race for Attorney General focuses on the lack of experience of their candidates, I am committed to putting forward commonsense solutions to restore credibility, integrity and deliver real results to protect the people of Pennsylvania.

I have released my plan for addressing the current crisis regarding inappropriate behavior and emails in the Office of Attorney General.  I want to set a clear course forward for how I would demand the next Attorney General, the Office of Attorney General and its employees represent the people of Pennsylvania in this important office.
